Doc and Shirley Eaker were inducted into the USCHI
Hall of Fame.
Doc
started harvesting 46 years ago after some disappointing
years of farming. Shirley joined him after they married
for 37 years of those harvesting years. Harvesting
took them form Texas up to Montana and back to Texas
for the Fall Harvest.
Doc
and Shirley were among the first to join USCHI in
1983 and have attended nearly every convention since.
They both worked to sign up new members at the 3-1
Show in Kansas and the Farmer-Stockman Show in Lubbock.
They were willing to help promote the organization
any time they were asked.
Shirley's
favorite project was the Scholarship program. She
was instrumental in helping design the criteria to
start the program, and served as its chairman for
five years. Shirley took pride in handing out Scholarships
to many recipients. She was very serious about raising
money to fund this program. USCHI Members will remember
Shirley for her persistence in selling chances on
quilts and other items for the cause. Shirley departed
form this life on November 12,1999. |
