struggling to understand the price drop in the uk at the moment, i think good reports from egqpt and india are not helping. Growers that turned down £120/mt wheat forward for nov are not amused.

Would their be anyone wanting to retire this year and sell their harvest business? We are a husband and wife team that could go all the way on harvest with someone and meet the clients and get into the business. Thanks

We got started in the Oklahoma panhandle yesterday, continued today even cut an irrigated circle! Good test weight, good yield. 10-12 on moisture. Thankfully, it's going to be a little staggered, just enough so that it's not all ready at once. It's going pretty good so far out here. Thank you Tracy Zeorian and Ron Misener for helping me out down state!!

We had some pretty big storms come through Kansas last night, alot of hail, rain and wind. Several buildings were damaged here in Hutch. Some of the wheat has been wiped out, not sure exactly how much at this time. The good news is they aren't predicting any more rain and lots of hot days in a row. Hope all of you are doing well out there, looks like we are having an extremely slow start to the harvest again this year. Be careful and be safe.

If you have a portable fuel unit, I hope you have your Class A CDL with a hazmat endorsement. You need this if you're hauling more than 119 gallons of diesel.

For those of you who have been keeping up with this discussion board, my goal for the number of comments on the USCHI petition for rulemaking was 100. We're nearly there - 98!! Thanks to all of you were dedicated enough to the organization to take the time out of your busy life to do it. I upped my goal, however, to 150. I wanted to let those readers out there who are wondering who can leave comments and who can't. ANYONE can leave comments. We only want positive ones though :) We have quite a few Associate Members that could leave comments, too. You don't HAVE to be a member of USCHI to leave a comment. The step by step instructions can be found on the homepage of the website. I made it so it can be printed before you start the process. PLEASE.....let your voices be heard!!

Happy Harvest everyone!
It's been kind of slow going here in Texas, all kinds of obstacles working against us I guess!!
We have 93 comments posted on the Reg.gov website, again thank you to all of you that have replied! Please continue to encourage others to send in their comments, we could easily get 200 more!!
Thank You and be safe!

I'm 23 years old and live in CA. I have a degree in Business and a Law Enforcement background. I do not have a CDL but do have a clean driving record. I have worked on and maintained farm equipment for quite a few years.
I currently have the opportunity to commit to a whole season of harvest. I want the experience while I have the time. I don't necessarily want to work for the largest custom harvesting crew but do want to work for a crew that treats their employees with respect and has a good reputation.
I know that for most the season has already started but if you are hiring or know of anyone who is hiring please feel free to call me.

First of all Joe I would put your phone number in with your ad. Most harvesters don't have the time to waste with email especially this time of year.

To whom is may concern,

My Name is Joe Kempf. I am an 18 year old graduating senior in Bristol Wisconsin. My Highschool graduation is this Sunday June 7th. Growing up on a small hobby farm and working for the second largest grain farm in SE Wisconsin has set me pretty well off with experience. An older mentor in my life has expressed the love and fun he had while on a wheat train and I would love for nothing more than to join any one of the crews. I know the wheat harvest dosent begin around these parts for a month or so, but I fear that by waiting for my graduation to roll around ill simply be too late to get on a crew. I have emailed and called several of the wanted ads and have received no response. Am i indeed too late for the summer harvest of 2009 in the southern states? Or what other course of action could i take to get on a crew?

Only 18 MORE comments to reach my goal of 100 - that's nearly 1/3 of our membership. I'm going to up the expectations and shoot for 150 comments - only 68 more to go!!! Come on guys......WE CAN DO IT!!! Let your voice be heard by those who will make a change for the industry!!! If you've already left yours, encourage someone else to do it. I know we're all talking to other harvesters. Make it a part of your conversation.

Check out the video found on the home page of this website to see what benefits you, as a custom harvester, would receive for becoming a member of USCHI. Why wouldn't you want to be a member?
